PRESENTS

NOVA ARENA • JUNE 6 – SEPTEMBER 30, 2026

Summer 2026 is an especially exciting time for anyone interested in Saab's classic cars. The Saab Car Museum is now presenting its temporary exhibition, The Box.

Between 6 June and 30 September, the Saab Car Museum is showcasing more cars at one time than ever before. This is made possible by temporarily relocating to the event venue Nova Arena, just a stone’s throw from the museum’s beautiful premises in Nohab’s historic locomotive factory.
This is a unique opportunity to experience the world’s finest Saab collection in a way that won’t return anytime in the foreseeable future.

What is The Box?

The Box is an exhibition shown for a limited time. It offers a unique opportunity to see a large part of the world’s finest collection of Saabs, which is managed by the Saab Car Museum.

Normally, the museum can display only around half of its collection of 140–150 vehicles. In The Box, visitors can instead view 115 fascinating cars and one caravan. Saab created many unforgettable models that have a place in both Swedish and international industrial, design, and motorsport history.

In The Box you will encounter everything from the first prototype, “Ursaaben,” from 1946 to the very last cars produced before the bankruptcy in 2011. Among other things, you will get to explore two-stroke cars, turbo models, racing cars, concept cars, and prototypes. You can also expect that some cars which have not been shown to the public for a very long time will appear.

Why are we creating The Box?

Since 1987, the Saab Car Museum has been housed in Nohab’s old locomotive factory in the Innovatum District. The building, erected in 1906, is charming and full of history. Both we and our visitors love it, but it’s now time to renovate the roof and the skylights that fill the museum with its beautiful natural light.

During the roof renovation, the museum must be emptied. This gave us an opportunity to create something memorable for our visitors by establishing The Box in a nearby venue.

What is Nova Arena?

The Box is on display in Nova Arena, Nohabgatan 35, just a few hundred meters from the Saab Car Museum. Nova Arena is housed in the former industrial hall Building 88, constructed in 1959 for turbine assembly. The hall has also been used for lock-gate repairs, steel construction manufacturing, and film productions.

Today, this industrial space from a bygone era is a modern arena that typically hosts concerts, stage shows, fairs, and conferences. With a breathtaking ceiling height of 25 meters and 2,700 square meters of floor space, Nova Arena is perfectly suited for events that go beyond the ordinary – and that is exactly what The Box is all about!

Will the museum close?

Oh no! On the contrary – we will make more cars available than we normally can display. So instead of closing during the roof renovation, we are opening up the treasure box and inviting visitors to enjoy a large selection of the wonderful cars Saab has built over the years – but in a different venue. We are therefore expanding our exhibition when the museum moves into Nova Arena.

However, in order to carry out “The Box” while the roof is being renovated during the summer of 2026, the Saab Car Museum will need to remain completely closed in May while we move to Nova Arena, and again in October–December when we move back. The museum will reopen sometime in January. The exact reopening date has not yet been confirmed.
