Saab Car Museum Celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the Saab 9000. We commemorate this milestone with a special exhibition dedicated to Rony Lutz, Saab's legendary illustrator.
Shortly after being hired in May 1969, he independently experimented and developed techniques to create detailed X-ray drawings. With an incredible innate talent and countless hours spent with a drawing pen, ink, and airbrush, he became one of the world's foremost illustrators in the field. A single illustration could take up to three months to complete. Beyond X-ray images, Rony was responsible for producing everything from newspaper ads to instructional catalog images. One day it might be a computer chip, the next a glowing turbocharger. Rony Lutz always executed his work with immense detail and a soft, soulful touch.
With the introduction of the Saab 9000 in 1984, Rony's workload increased. A new model with many seemingly contradictory characteristics needed visual explanation. A car that was luxurious, fast, safe, compact, spacious, and fun demanded its illustrations.
In this exhibition, produced by Saab Car Magazine’s editor-in-chief Claes Johansson, visitors can see Rony Lutz's unique originals from the Saab 9000 years. Classic illustrations that have influenced generations of Saab enthusiasts are mixed with never-before-seen work materials – like when the Saab 9000 was set to get four-wheel drive in 1992!
Welcome to enjoy the work of a master.
The exhibition is on display throughout the year.
